How Self Emulsifying Wax Works

Self emulsifying wax is applied in manufacturing cosmetics, pharmaceutical creams, lotions, ointments and more. Its molecular action gives it the property to bind water and oil, forming a jelly-like, smooth emulsion.

Water has hydrophobic, or polarized, characteristics and tends to bind with hydrophilic material or non-polar substances — for example, the hydrophobic property owned by olive oil. Self emulsifying wax, however, contains both hydrophilic and hydrophobic characteristics. This is why some of the wax attracts oil while another portion binds with water, creating a spongy structure that blends oil and water together in cosmetic wax.

Cosmetics made with this wax help oil to be absorbed into the skin, keeping it moisturized.
